Marine

Marine applications can pose a unique challenge with the added complexities imposed by the often-times harsh environments where vessels are operating. From commercial fishing vessels to large military transport ships we have a wide variety of solutions we can offer.

Hazards

General Recommendations

It is not uncommon for sensors to be connected directly (typically via 4-20 mA) to shipboard control systems in smaller applications

In many cases we will also provide a monitor for local alarming and notification (through relays) to the ship’s controls (Fire Panel, etc.)

Some applications do require specific approvals (Lloyd’s List, USCG, etc.)

  • The United States Coast Guard (USCG) may accept certain CSA approvals as equivalent

Equipment Recommendations

>When a local monitor/controller is required we will often see a requirement for Nema 4x enclosures, which are optional on the AMC-1A Series, and standard on the AMC-1400.

These are typically paired with a light industrial/heavy industrial transmitter that may require explosion-proof certification. For toxic gases like chlorine, ammonia, and hydrogen sulphide the AMC-210 series provides excellent value in a simple 2-wire 4-20 mA transmitter in either their standard PVC or explosion-proof variants. If more advanced features are required the highly configurable AMC-DTR is a good option.

For carbon dioxide an combustible gas our AMC-360 Series and AMC-CSA-CAT great value options for monitoring combustible gases at the LEL level. If monitoring at lower concentrations, such as fuel spills the AMC-340 series is a proven performer.
